| Description: | "Dealing with Loss, Guilt, Grief While Protecting Your Own Health" is the proposed topic for discussion at the Monday, October 13 Alzheimer's Association caregiver support group meeting from 1:30-3:00 in the church library at First United Methodist Church in Statesboro. Common experiences shared in support groups include losing the memories you share, adjusting expectations as the patient shows fluctuating cognitive abilities from day to day, and helping the patient face the long term consequences of this progressive and degenerative brain disease. Practical suggestions will be explored including maintaining a sense of humor, giving yourself permission to make mistakes, acknowledging and dealing with care giver stress and planning ahead for respite and renewal. This is a confidential, small discussion group where family caregivers come for current information, learn about community resources and support one another as their loved ones pass through the predictable stages of Alzheimer's disease. |
