| Description: | Join the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and the Statesboro Holiday Inn for a lunch-and-learn event! Dr. Adrienne Cohen, social gerontologist and assistant professor of sociology, will discuss the range of strategies that can be used to allow Social Security to continue well into the future. This is a non-political lecture presenting a range of strategies involving increasing revenues, decreasing benefits and privatizing the system. Each strategy has a range of options that will be presented. Information will include the benefits and challenges of each. In addition information will be provided on how each option affects a range of individuals based on socioeconomic status, race and gender. The simple answer to the question, “Can Social Security be saved?” is “Yes.” The complicated question is, “How?” There will be a time at the end for questions and answers. Participants are welcome to purchase lunch at Emma's restaurant in the Holiday Inn (cost for the lunch buffet is $8). |
