Ben Franklin was our Demise

Benjamin Franklin started the socialized fire department. I've never used the fire department. Why do I have to pay for it? Do they check to see if the residents are US Citizens? I bet not! He started the socialized library. I go to the library, but the free market can handle it better. The Government can remove books from the library that they don't want us to read (look up Banned Books Week!!). Classics like 1984 (How ironic!), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Bridge to Terabithia and The Giver have been challenged and some have been removed by the Government!

I'll have to ponder this.

DevilsAdvocate commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 14:47 PM

I think you are a reptilian NWO shill trying to slander the names of good patriotic white Christian Americans.

watchdog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:20 PM

Uncalled for, DA.

TP22, the fire department is for your - and others' - protection.

I have to agree with you about the banned books.

Couch commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:23 PM

So is the Health Care Bill Watchdog.

watchdog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:25 PM

That is a matter of opinion, Couch. You have yours and I have mine - and they are polar opposites.

Couch commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:28 PM

Pretty much all of the bill is protection. Making sure people don't get dropped, making sure health care is affordable, etc.

katieog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:31 PM

Only got as far as the C's on the Banned Books website, but up to that point, the banning was either done by local governments or school boards...who are most sensitive to the prevailing winds of opinion.

TeaPartyGirl22 commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:39 PM

Government is Government.
A is A.

People will claim that this bill is for protection. People claim that the fire department is for protection. The fire departments could run so much better without Government intervention. Look at the VFD.

SNOOPY commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:52 PM

TPG22 - with or without the healthcare bill, should I go to the emergency room if I see SPOTS?

TeaPartyGirl22 commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:54 PM

You would have to see your doctor about that. I don't know much about seeing spots.

SNOOPY commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:57 PM

I may call him because I am still seeing SPOTS.

watchdog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 15:57 PM

The VFDs here are run by the county government. Not disputing your idea that we need less government, though.

Snoopy - there's no cure for having to endure the results of other people's personality disorders. The health care bill won't cover that, or optical rectumitis, for that matter.

PM me if you have never heard of that disease! LOL

TeaPartyGirl22 commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:00 PM

I googled "seeing spots" to try and help you.

I think you'll need to see an eye doctor. It could be pretty serious.

I would much rather a county Government run the Fire Department than a State or City. The smaller the Government the better.

watchdog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:02 PM

Agreed. No go google optical rectumitis.

SNOOPY commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:03 PM

Thanks TPG22. I will do that.

I think I get migraines when my secretary SYBIL has a bipolar day. She talks to herself and it drives me crazy.

Thanks though.

katieog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:04 PM

Counties are generally larger than cities, TPG22.

TeaPartyGirl22 commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:05 PM

Sometimes talking to yourself helps you remember things. It might make you look crazy but it really does. I googled optical rectumitis, it wasn't very nice.

watchdog commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:08 PM

That's why I didn't post the definition here.

TeaPartyGirl22 commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:14 PM

I was a little distracted katieog, sorry. You are right.

AmberLamps commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:25 PM

"This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy.
I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility.
After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school.
Then, after spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, I drive back to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and the fire marshall's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.
I then log onto the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right."

Couch commented on Friday, Apr 02, 2010 at 17:03 PM

Best copypasta out there imo tbh imo.

Electricity is was our obvious down fall. :p

bullochguy commented on Saturday, Apr 03, 2010 at 23:19 PM

No fire dept? No Library?

Please stop making the Tea Party people look bad by posting things like this under a name like that. I assure you, most of them don't agree with ideas like that.

While I agree with a smaller Government for the most part, I want a fire dept to respond to emergencies, and I want all people to have Literature available to them.

TeaPartyGirl22 commented on Sunday, Apr 04, 2010 at 14:05 PM

There would be a fire department and a library. It would just operate more efficiently in the free market. The fire department would respond to emergencies, but would operate like this: (The report is a little biased). A library would work like a Movie Gallery or something I assume.

bullochguy commented on Sunday, Apr 04, 2010 at 14:36 PM

People would refrain from calling 911 and deaths would result. That isn't a solution. We have to provide certain services for public safety.

The waste in Government and all the handouts for support is what is bad, not services.

Healthcare reform isn't bad either, it is just the bill they passed that is bad.

Laura7N commented on Thursday, Apr 08, 2010 at 10:23 AM

TP Girl 22:
About public libraries: First of all, I should point out that the Movie Gallery is out of business! And as someone else said, censorship is imposed from outside the library system. The American Library Association has always been on the front lines opposing censorship.
Our public libraries offer so much more than free books--although that in itself is wonderful. The Herald lists the special programs offered by the library, but there're also magazines, newspapers, DVDs, books on tape, rows of computers for the use of people who don't have them, genealogical resources, and a wonderful staff here in Statesboro who are willing to help you find information. Literacy classes are held here, and the Vacation Reading Program lures children into the delights of reading with planned special activities each summer. There is also a meeting room that you can reserve.
We have a public library here that we can be proud of. I'd love to see a "Book Gallery" that could provide the same services at the same price.

FrostWolf commented on Thursday, Apr 08, 2010 at 10:36 AM

The private libraries could offer those same exact things.

Laura7N commented on Thursday, Apr 08, 2010 at 12:35 PM

I challenge you to open a private library and see how that goes for you!:)

FrostWolf commented on Thursday, Apr 08, 2010 at 12:40 PM

If I had the time, money and resources, I would. Books A Million has all those things.

SNOOPY commented on Thursday, Apr 08, 2010 at 12:49 PM

Good points, Laura7N.

FW - if there was a profit to be made, don't you think some entreprenuer who DOES HAVE the time, money, and resources would have opened such a business.

A public library is a service best provided by the government.

FrostWolf commented on Thursday, Apr 08, 2010 at 12:53 PM

A private library hasn't been tried in a positive, healthy environment.

There should be private libraries. Private schools are better than Public ones. UPS/FedEx is better than the Public mail service. The private sector has been better than the Government so many times.
