This blog is soo true. I don't know what the solution is but this little town has changed so much in the last few years and not all for the good.
Oh lord, another "OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD" moment here on the blogs.
Crime ebbs and crime flows. Sometimes there's a bit more crime, sometimes a bit less.
Remember the folks who clamored for cameras downtown because of the "rash of break-ins?" Turns out it was one guy who did them all and he was captured.
Remember the recent robberies? Turns out four of them may have been committed by two men - both of whom have been arrested.
Criminals surface, crimes are committed then police catch the criminals and crimes abate. It is the normal order of things.
Please, let's stay away from hyperbole about these crimes. Our town is just as safe as it has been. Yes, there are always a couple of bad apples that spoil the bunch, but those guys get caught.
Take it easy, people.
I don't need a gun. I have enough animals for them to fall over. If that don't work I'll turn Lela loose and she can blow them over.
Commonsense, when you be da one who wakes up ta find somebody wid' a gun in ya face, an' all ya stuff done stole, den you make fun of them who wants to defend they selves,
Crime be rising constantly. What you think 'bout all dem robberies at the college? You feel froggy enough to walk across campus alone at night? You be foolish if ya want to.
Stick ya head in da sand if you wanna, but I gots my Louisville Slugger and a pit bull handy at the house and
this mama be packing when she leaves. Yeah I got a permit. Permit to bust a cap if some fool tries to mess with me.
When you git to be da victim den you talk about ohmyGodohmyGodohmyGod. You ain't got no sense at all if you say Statesboro is as safe as it always wuz. Go check out the police reports and then tell us that mess.
I feel that a factor being ignored here is the effect that extreme poverty is having on criminal behavior. It is a fact that economic desperation increases the tendency for people to consider criminal actions.
For the record, having being reduced to odd-jobs as a source of income for the last 6 months, it is rough out there. Fast food isn't even an option in Statesboro these days.
Bear in mind, I'm not condoning the behavior...but to ignore the effect of hopelessness on the criminally inclined is to foolishly invite these problems into one's hometown.
