My .99 cents worth

This is intended to be light-hearted. I am not trying to incite a riot at the local store or anything...just find this interesting and didn't know if anybody else ever noticed this?

Do you know how much .99 cents (I can't seem to get the cent symbol to post on here) is? If you went to a store, and they had a sign for a product that said .99 cents, do you really know how much that is?

.99 cents is less than one cent. Would you agree that .99 is less than one? When you add the cent sign after it, you are saying that the product is less than one cent. What a great bargain!!!

I see this at stores all the time. I see it at big chain stores and I see at smaller local stores. If something is on sale for 99 cents, the proper ways to show it would be $.99 or you could just say 99 cents (using the cent symbol). If I ever mention it to a store manager, they kind of look at me like I am crazy.

I guess I am being a little nit-picky, but if anybody really pushed it, I wonder if we could get the products for the price that they are inadvertently advertising?? I wonder how they would give change for less than a penny?

You may be able to push it if they don't have the $ in front of the .99

lasa1965 commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 12:23 PM

I wouldn't push it because most of the time they really don't understand what I am trying to say. It is just interesting to me that so many businesses don't understand that they are advertising that their products are less than a penny.

Just what is your problem, June Bug? Got some june bugs up your butt. Shame on you!

nitsuaevoli commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 13:38 PM

Take your own advice June bug and get a life. Does it make you feel like a bigger, better person to be cruel and cut somebody down for giving their opinions? You poor, insecure little person.

June_bug....my blog about the 99 cents signs is just something that I find to be a little funny. It was intended to be light-hearted. I didn't know if anybody every noticed this error that businesses make. It's something most of us learned in 1st or 2nd grade Math class.

You have your opinion about whether I should have talked to the police in the matter dealing with my son. I would do it again. I don't consider it to be a waste of taxpayer money if it meant helping to PREVENT some other person from being verbally or physically abused by a man who believes it is okay to threaten kids with bodily harm who knock on his door. I would much rather be pro-active and prevent somebody from being hurt than wait until it DOES become a criminal issue - AFTER somebody is sent to the hospital or morgue.

lol Lasa-I'm the same way about the apostrophe in the wrong place and people being referred to as "Mrs.(insert ladies name here) Doe" --Mrs. means married to and to have the ladies name after the Mrs. sort of implies that she is married to herself-yeah it may seem a little crazy to some to notice these things but at least I'm not dangerous crazy

lasa1965 commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 14:13 PM

I guess that I always notice these things because my mother was studying to be an English teacher when she began having children. She never went back and finished, but she always made sure we spoke and wrote properly. I tend to notice those out-of-place apostrophes, too. I think it is a curse:)

Of course it make June feel like a bigger, better person to be cruel and cut somebody down. That is the American way and one this prelude to the 4th of July how dare you bad mouth America. I just hope when the zombie hordes come to devour the living we can have a little better unity than this.

When the zombie hordes come to devour the living, they will probably spit a few of us out:)

nitsuaevoli commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 15:48 PM

Or, since zombies live off brains, will starve to death if they try to eat certain people.

lasa1965 commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 15:49 PM

Hee hee. Good point.

Burke commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 16:27 PM

God one, Nitsue. If brains is what Zombies eat they have to stop back by McDonalds if it eats me.

Burke commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 16:31 PM

Sorry!!!!!!!!!Should have been GOOD ONE. Don't send me to the wood shed, Lasa. LOL

Long time bloggers know my favorite pet pieves but for this blog I'll add the mundane "know what I'm saying?" (if I do, why refresh my memory?),,, "he goes" (what time will he be back?),, "like,, " (give me a comparative),, and the other repetitive idiotic crap!

Yes, dot nine nine is less than one and by adding the cent to it is less than one cent,,, correctly it should be $.99 but don't hold your breath for an uninterested employee to understand such complicated matters,, they can't even figure change due back to a customer unless the cash register tells them how much money to count out and give back. "IN MY DAY" we could figure this out in our heads by the age of 10 !! So WHY should I give such inept people my respect? They don't deserve it,, for this blog, they are not worthy of you wasting your breath.

lasa1965 commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 17:11 PM

You are right. Most of them simply don't care. I don't waste time anymore trying to explain it. One would think, though, that major chain restaurants and grocery stores that produce the signs would have a clue. These are marketing folks, I assume, that have the signs printed out. Just take a look around in the next couple of days and see how many inaccurate signs there are. You might be surprised at the numbers.

lasa1965 commented on Thursday, Jul 02, 2009 at 17:13 PM

Don't worry Burke, I wouldn't dream of sending you to the woodshed.

gwarfan commented on Friday, Jul 03, 2009 at 12:19 PM

Yeah girl on girl in the woodshed is hot in Georgia in July.
