My lil' brother swung as hard as he could
with that bat and hit me on my head made outta wood.
I fell down quick! And cried for a while
till this lil girl stood over me with a big ole' smile.

She said, "I saw what was done; I saw it all!
Your brother swung real hard to hit that ball.
Just as he was swingin' he looked over at me
and that ole' bat went flyin' free!"

Now, when I have a bat in my hand made outta wood
I remember vividly the lil' bat that could!
Well that lil' girl; I can't remember her name
but she musta been a pretty lil' thing!

I am just beginning to appreciate poetry. I am a musician. Anyway, Recently I was at the Goodwill in Stateboro and picked up a $2.00 frame for a certificate that I had of my civil war grandfather. Under the picture in the frame was a drawing by William "Bill" Hendrix. I did not know who he was but the drawing was of a beautiful church on St. Simon's Island. When I researched him on the internet it said that he was originally from Statesboro and this year had his work shown at the Averitt Center in Statesboro this summer from May to July. His son said that he opened an artist camp on St. Simons Island to teach. Anyway, one day when I am on my way to Savannah I would love you to have it to hang in your store. His son said that his father got the greatest pleasure out of teaching art while on St. Simons Island.

I have a feeling that your poem might have come from a true experience. :) I love the poem.

That would be absolutely fantastic Deborah Lee. Please do so!

ibdaisy-Lets say it was based on a true story. Ha-ha! With two other brothers, one of us was always getting hurt and as for the lil girl...well I was actually a very shy boy and quite reserved so I wouldnt have had the nerve to talk with her anyway.
Now that Im quickly becoming old and gray I have plenty of nerve and not shy. Funny how that works!
