He called liberty and independence "traditional conservative values," thus implying that Democrats don't hold those dear.
That's about all I need to know about Mr. Cathcart right there. We saw a lot of nationalistic ugliness from the right during this past election, mostly from Sarah Palin, who tried to portray the left in this country as dangerous, anti-American and something to be fought against. There's no wonder that death threats against then-Sen. Obama spiked as soon as she was let loose.
I don't know what kind of person could see a massive Democratic win across the board as a confirmation that America hews to the conservative line. We're a moderate country, proven by the election.
Coward,
"As you know, from post-election polling, the great majority of our citizens still hold-dear to traditional conservative values, not the least of which, our independence and liberty. To that end especially, here, then, are some initial policy suggestions, as you work hard to build and maintain the very best for America."
You appear to be fairly intelligent but if I am not mistaken the quote said that the GREAT MAJORITY of our citizens hold dear to traditional conservative values. I see that the majority voted for Obama. This does not in any way say that Democrats do not hold those dear. You are such an agitator. I am sure that is not the first time you have heard that. Read the complete post in the future and respond intelligently.
You are right Hippyhophop. If people would read the post and not see every item as an attack. But unfortunately that is the left way of thinking.
As someone who's watched Cathcart's editorials several times, it's hard not to see it as an attack - though a milder one than his usual segments. Don't just dismiss me with "that is the left way of thinking." Cathcart's a hard-right conservative. I doubt he'd deny it. It's funny to me that he's calling on the president to essentially toe the Republican party line. I'm a little offended by his playing the fear card, implying that America's under attack from both without and within.
Anonymous..... just so we make one thing clear.... there are many democrats that hold traditional values dear. There are also many republicans who are more middle of the road. If we are all EVER going to come together as a nation, we'd better stop categorizing people. Many, many people in this country consider themselves to be conservative at some level, even if they voted democratic. I think that is so cool. We are indeed all unique!
The democrats of years gone by did hold these values. It was the democratic party my grandparents, etc. were a part of. That seems to have changed drastically. That being said...I do know that there are wonderful democrats that uphold the same values that I, now a Republican hold. I sat at a dinner with a democrat...say in his 60's the other day. He said he voted democrat to keep the party strong. That was the only solid reason he could give me. Democrat to me equals government control. I know you could turn that around and approach the abortion/gay issues and say that Republican equals government control. Actually, when it comes to issues like that...I have a federalist view.
One more thing....and the Republicans are to blame for this too because even McCain wouldn't mention this in his plan and Obama certainly hasn't addressed it much if at all: Immigration!! This is not just from Mexico. What of the many middle easterners that are here and are not citizens. It's almost too late to put a stop to this because there are so many here that it has gotten dangerous. I'm talking about the radical Islamists that are so blood hungry you can't rationalize with them. No one seems to be interested in upholding the Alien Enemies Act that was enacted July 6, 1798...no expiration date and is still on the books. This Act authorizes the president to apprehend and deport resident aliens if their home countries are at war with the US. Who is to blame for this? Who has turned this into a love fest for with our enemies? I can't point the finger at democrats...can't really point it at republicans. Perhaps someone could enlighten us on this issue.
Just for clarification, are you positing that "radical Islamists" pose an existential threat to the U.S.?
Lakerat,
Thanks for the posting. I don't get a chance to check-up on Mr. Cathcart all of the time.
Everyone else,
It's so funny! Walkie can't help but laugh at this.
Cathcart dishes it out to both sides extremely well. He is well educated as his articulation demonstrates. He gets right to the heart of the issues...whether he supports them or not.
It will be a sad day in journalism when he decides to take a new career in life and leave this one behind.
He also has a way of making me feel so patriotic and proud to be an American...even when he and I disagree.
I'm talking in terms of terrorism. You're smart enough to know what I mean, right? If no one thinks that is a problem then I'm sorry for them.
Coward, I was actually hoping to open up a good no spin dialogue on the issues. It is always good to try and see the other side's point of view....without them always assuming they are under attack. How actually have we gotten to the point...as a nation, today? Who is reponsible for gradually deviating from our own constitution. Do you agree with me that the constitution that the framers set forth is far from what it intended to be? Just a thought for ya'.
All you folks who enjoy Cathcart, have a great day at least until the 6:00 "news". I'll bet you sit around doing your nails or watching Father Knows Best reruns till this guy comes on with his "daily devotional" sermon. Each time I make a mistake and have my tv tuned in to this Savannah Station when he comes on, I wanna puke. But before I do, I quickly turn the channel, usually to CNN or off. Perhaps he would be better just doing a blog without being in front of a camera.
Actually, I have never watched him. I'm not familiar with him, but I enjoyed the editorial above. What station does he come on?
You can go on the WTOC Web-site and read it every day. I once e-mailed him to let him know that he should run for President.
I heard him give his editorial yesterday at 6:30 and I really enjoyed it. He is so on it. I then went on the web page to share it with all of you that will enjoy it. The rest that do not...so be it.
I noticed I didn't get a response. Guess it was over their heads. I was trying to find out what rung of the intellectual ladder they were on, BUT....
