Sunday evening on C- Span , Harold Holzer was interviewed at the famous Williard Hotel in Washington , D.C. on his lastest book: " Lincoln-President Elect" ...subtitle: "Abraham Lincoln and The Great Succession Winter 1860-1861". This book is suppose to be Holzer's best and most controversial of his 31 books. Lincoln will be 200 years old in February, 2009.

I noted the similarities in Lincoln and Obama...

1. Both were Illinois State Senators
2. Liberals
3. Elected with little experience
4. Due to the shifting values of their respective parties(Lincoln -Republican Obama -Democrat) , both have similar goals and values.

Physical statues were similar too. Lincoln was 6 ft.3 1/2 inches tall and slim (but not thin). Obama is 6 ft. 1 1/2 inches tall and slim.

I saw Obama on T.V. in a van with at least 3-4 bodyguards , with one of the guards leaning out the back window with a machine gun and no telling what all the other bodyguards carried for protection. I thought of how Lincoln had only one bodyguard who carried brass knuckles, a vest pocket derringer , six shot revolver (1851 Navy Colt Revolver) and a knife. Times have really changed in that area.

Very good, Dix. Hopefully such weaponary will never be necessary. It is much better to be safe than sorry.
