Feeling on top of the world? Pretty confident as a Blue Devil right now?

Don't get too carried away.

Statesboro goes on the road Friday night to face a tricky/sneaky South Effingham squad that has every bit of a good chance to upset No. 2 SHS.

The Mustangs started the season 5-0, but after eight starters were suspended, dropped their last two and find themselves 1-2 in Region 2-AAAA play. Those eight starters will be back Friday and SEHS has had a week off to prepare for the mighty Devils.

What's more, SE has already beaten arch-rival Effingham County, a team that mirrors SHS in almost every way. If that doesn't calm you down, I don't know what will.

One last point about the guys from Guyton - their backs are against the wall. They need this win much more than the Devils do if they want to stay in the playoff hunt. Expect nothing less than an all-out war.

I don't think Statesboro will have a letdown this week after the big 24-7 win over Ware County. But they will need to play just as good as they did last Friday - turnover-free, mistake-less football.

For those of you wondering, quarterback Luke Connell will still be out this week but will likely play in the season finale against Brunswick. Unfortunately, lineman Jamie Malone appears to have torn his ACL and will be out the rest of the way.
