So wait - can you not say where? What time does it start? I may see if my dad can watch the kiddos...it's gonna be a good one! :)

Is there a special section for folks who pronounce whole words?

southgapassion commented on Tuesday, Oct 07, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Whatcha tryin' to say?

lakerat commented on Tuesday, Oct 07, 2008 at 13:30 PM

Some will, some won't. There is not a special section. We don't discriminate.

Well, if you really want to get technical about it, none of these are debates at all. They are just statements of positions on various topics or questions. If your high school ever had a debate team, you know that there are two teams, one takes the pro side of the question, and the other takes the con side. Each side has a chance to state their position on the question, and then they question their opponent and vice versa until the alloted time of the meet has expired. The judges then determine who won the debate, the pro or con side. So you can readily see that the nonsense that goes on between McCain and Obama, and Biden and Palin are not really debates at all.

What a smart aleck comment katieog. I figured you had more class than that. Say it ain't so, Joe!

katieog commented on Tuesday, Oct 07, 2008 at 13:58 PM

Aw, c'mon now, Watchdog...I was just having a little fun with a) the title of the blog, which I assume was deliberate and b)Gov. Palin's tendency to drop her g's.

There is no doubt that Palin is a smart cookie, but with all those teachers in her family that she mentioned, you'd think one of them might have drilled her on elocution. On the other hand, she seems to be doin' just fine hangin' out with folks and tellin' it like it is.

watchdog commented on Tuesday, Oct 07, 2008 at 14:10 PM

You betcha!

I think her natural, unaffected way of talking shows she really is a down-to-earth, " real" person.
I am educated and intelligent and have a higher than average IQ, but I drop my g's. The incorrect perception that people who may talk with a Southern (or Midwestern) drawl are uneducated or in some way inferior is ludicrous.

There's nothing wrong with speaking correctly, but there's nothing wrong with dropping g's either. People who judge others by criteria such as that are shallow minded.

Sorry I didn't catch your tone of humor!

southgapassion commented on Tuesday, Oct 07, 2008 at 16:23 PM

Wow - you spelled elocution correctly - now spell Miscellaneous...darnit, nevermind...that sounded better in my head.

I won't be coming tonight. My dad has a sinus infection and he is the designated babysitter...*sigh*

I did find this AWESOME tidbit of info - just in case y'all are interested...I'm not happy I found this...it's only confirming my fears.

It's long, but gets VERY interesting @ about 3 minutes / 30 seconds.

Obama, in Kenya, supporting his cousin, the anti-Christian, anti-American socialist, Raila Odinga - What we DON'T know about this man may kill us.

Please forward it to your fwd: friends.
