Saturday and Sunday's perfect weather welcomed crowds of local and area families to enjoy Portal's 27th Annual Catface Turpentine Festival.
In addition to a great parade, the usual crafts, festival foods, children's rides, pony rides, rosin baked potatoes, freshly ground corn meal, turpentine making/pouringselling, cake walks, disc jockey, stage performances, Lowe's setup, a Saturday night dance, two new areas were introduced within the festival.
One was the renovated Frances' Playhouse just completed a week prior to the festival where storytelling and picture making took place. Many thanks go to Lowe's of Statesboro who provided the Portal Heritage Society, Inc. with the materials for the renovation. In addition, thanks also go to Lowe's for their dedication on Saturday by providing an area near the playhouse where children could "build something together with Lowe's."
Next was the Heifer Cow Show that was held on Sunday afternoon at PMHS's show barn sponsored by Portal Community's Jimmy Skrine, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Caldwell Bankers Realty, and Heritage Bank.
Grand Champion winner was Molley Manley; Reserve Champion winner was Nadine Loitz; 3rd Place went to Laina Skrine, and 4th Place winner was Rachel Mizell.
Farmer & Merchant's Brenda Mascarello, Vice President is shown here with each of the winners along with Todd Wall who judged the show entries.
