The Mayor corrects a misinformed Soundoff

Today's issue of the paper has a soundoff about Register that is so feeble on facts that I just had to set the record straight.

First, it never fails to amaze me when someone cited for a traffic violation gets his or her knickers in a twist and cries "Foul!" Drivers obeying the rules of the road like, oh, stopping at stop signs, staying within speed limits, driving with working brake lights, using turn signals--the sorts of thing that should be automatic when they are behind the wheel--don't have police "jump out behind the bushes, turn on their blue lights, and take all your money." Really. Doesn't happen.

And, we will not be using "all your money" to pay for "that police car they bought from Metter," because we didn't buy a car from Metter. Never considered buying a car from Metter. We have one ancient police cruiser and one new one, which we purchased with SPLOST funds.

I sure don't mind criticism--it's just as valid as praise--but, sheesh, try to have a shred of truth in it, will you?
Especially if you want to be taken seriously.

Katie, your cops may not do what was accused, but some around here sure do!

Great blog. Some people just think they are above the law. When they are stopped for an infraction they get their panties all in a wad. I wonder how many more times they managed to escape without a ticket? You probably could buy another police car with the lost money. Just kiding. LOL

I know one of Register's officers who is also a Portal officer and you cannot find a nicer, more polite man in this world. Somebody just got ticked because they got caught.

Just like cops everywhere the cops around here don't follow the traffic laws they enforce.
I read this the other day and was in Register today when the brand new police car blew through the railroad stop sign at about 40 miles an hour(just a guess based on the way the police car bounced) .
Rode around looking for the emergency.
Must have been somewhere else, nothing was happening in Register.

Nothere, thank you for your heads up. I have asked Chief Carney to make sure all of our officers read your comments, as they reinforce the fact that people are watching, all the time, and the officers' actions reflect not only on the police department, but on the town as well.
