Regional Art Grant Workshop ANNOUNCED

State brings arts to all Georgians

A regional meeting will be held to offer residents of Montgomery, Tattnall, Toombs, Treutlen, and Wheeler counties a local opportunity to learn how to use a grant from the Grassroots Arts Program to advance the arts in their communities.

The meeting will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008, @ 1:00pm at the PAL Theater, 122 Church Street in Vidalia, GA, 30474. Ann Owens will host the meeting and Tony Phillips will teach the grant writing workshop. Owens can be reached at (912) 585-1197. Phillips can be reached at (912) 481 – 3594.

The counties are slated to receive monies from the Georgia State Legislature, through the Georgia Council for the Arts, provides monies each year to advance the arts in Georgia. Our region, the Greater Statesboro Region, gets $37,934.30 for a twelve county area through the council’s Grassroots Arts Program.

Bulloch $4,177.99

Candler $2,899.09

Effingham $3,669.58

Emanuel $3,236.96

Evans $2,924.39

Jenkins $2,871.48

Montgomery $2,863.07

Screven $3,058.85

Tattnall $3,249.86

Toombs $3,353.54

Treutlen $2,824.05

Wheeler $2,805.44

TOTAL $37,934.30

Does your organization have a great idea for an arts project, but no funds to carry it out? Come and learn how you can apply for funding from the State Legislature. It's quite simple.

For this grant program, the arts is broadly interpreted and can include, but are not limited to performing arts, dance, visual arts, vocal arts, crafts, literary arts, and more. The funds can be used to pay for artists, technicians, instructors, art materials/tools, performances, arts, folk, or music festivals, instructional programs, murals, readings, and more.

Residents in the other seven counties in the region are also invited to attend. Those counties would include Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, and Screven.

This will be a repeat of an earlier meeting held on September 9 in Statesboro, GA.

Tony Phillips is the GAP administrator for these 12 counties. Grant applications are due by September 30, 2008. Contact him to request a copy of the grant application. He can be reached at tphillips@averittcenterforthearts.org and (912) 481 – 3594.
