Have you shopped Goodwill?

"Don't knock it until you try it!"
We've all heard this a hundred times, but this is one time I urge you to 'try it.'
Believe me when I say there's something for everyone at Goodwill. My weakness in shopping at Goodwill is for pottery and books.
Let me familiarize you with some of my specials, starting with the pink and white covered cake plate that I used for taking my four-layered strawberry cake to dinner on the ground at church today.
When I spotted a cake plate that was made in Portugal at Goodwill a few months ago, it was love at first sight. I have a collection of Desert Rose china and I knew from the beginning that this item would blend nicely with the Desert Rose as well as other pieces in my dining room. The only drawback was there was a small clip in the ceramic bow on top.
That didn't stop me for one second since I knew that with a little smoothing and several coats of clear nail polish, no one would ever know the difference.
Cost: $5.99 less 10% for being a senior plus 7% sales tax for a total of less than six bucks.
Another example is the beautiful bowl shown here that is also on display in my dining room. Cost with my senior discount plus tax was less than five dollars. Again, I brought it home, washed and dried it well, applied a few 1/2" diameter self-sticking protectors on the bottom to keep scatches away from the oak furniture, and I've been enjoying it ever since.
But probably one of best deals that I've gotten is in the purchase of great books for practically nothing at Goodwill.
Many of you are well familiar with Rick Warren's, The Purpose Driven Life, that was #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List and was the bestselling book in the world for both 2003 and 2004.
When we made the decision to use this book during several months at our Wednesday evening prayer meeting sessions, I was able to pick up several of these books over a period of a few months. They were $1.99 each less 10% plus 7% sales tax.
For me, it's great fun and I hope you'll give it a try!

Yes I have, occasionally, for over fourty years. Since the new store opened I go every time I'm in town. I also love the book section. I usually carry something to donate whenever I go also. I found several things than tie in with theme of new house a friends daughter just build.

You are right! I just took some clothes to Goodwill that I've managed to outgrow and boy, did I ever hate parting with them. Some of them still had the tags on them.

I LOVE Goodwill! In fact, I really can't remember the last time I purchased clothing anywhere else. Most of the furniture in my house came either from Goodwill or Habitat.
I get to feel good about recycling perfectly good items, supporting the good works of Goodwill, and my closet is filled with well-made clothes from Talbots, Eddie Bauer, Liz Claiborne and other high-end labels at pennies on the dollar.

Going to Goodwill is like therapy. Had a rough week? Take that shop-my-way-to-a-good-mood instinct to Goodwill, fill up the cart and walk out with two huge bags for under $30.
You can't beat it!

My rule is, I can't go in without dropping off a bag or two of donations which just adds to the feel-good vibes.

My sentiment, exactly, katieog. I am on the fluffy side and can't find many clother but I love the book section. I like to look for books of poetry. You can find picture frames still in original wrapper sometimes. Some people donate personal items that someone took the time to handcraft. I could never do that. Too much sentimental value to donate for me.

OK, I'll admit it!

Today when I dressed to go to Mill Creek Elementary to sub, although my top ensemble was from Belk (sale items, of course), the Sag Harbor cotton and linen slacks were straight from Goodwill. The outfit looked great and I spent little money - again barely $3. In fact, I'm representing Bulloch County at the 2008 Georgia Youth Summit at Rock Eagle this weekend along with four fantastic 4-H 'ers from Southeast Bulloch High and Statesboro High Schools, and those great looking slacks will go with me!

Good for you N Luree Bowen. Another lady after my own heard. I love Goodwill, and we are helping a worthy cause in the process.
