Oh, c'mon...I think it's all in good fun. I am a big fan of the new Gatorade G2 myself...all the flavor and electrolytes, half the calories of regular 'Ade. Yum.
My brother-in-law is an Iraqi war veteran, has toured Africa and is headed to Afghanistan. I hope he returns alive and well, but if he should not, the "neatly-folded, brand-new flag" that will cover his casket will be an honor and a treasured memento, a symbol of his bravery in VOLUNTEERING to serve his country.
My father had one of those flags over his casket at his funeral. He was drafted, but would have served anyway. He was a Vietnam veteran, a brave, honorable man.
Thank God our country still has brave and honorable volunteers who want to defend their country. Imagine what we would be living like if all we had were cowards. America would no longer be free and we would be living like the Iraquis.
I think being in the military is both honorable and senseable for most troops. I have yet to meet a soilder that was in Iraqi that was worth a darn as a person say anything along the lines of we are all going to die and lets kill folks. America was born and sustained on the blood of our youth. Some will never know what freedom costs though.
I'm gonna have one of those flags, miz Lee. And I'm proud of it. I ain't proud of what I've had to do in my life, but I can say I am a man who stood up for what's right, fought for freedom, and will defend my country until I take my last breath.
You have a screwed up idea of what war is about, lady. You better get on your knees and thank God (if you even believe in the Lord) that you didn't have to face what our soldiers do, and you have the right to run that big ol' anti-American mouth of yours. Thank a soldier for that right. You're bitin' the hand that fed ya.
I like to refer to the Powerade as Labron James sweat, the blue ones with his face on it. I have yet to taste the G2 though. Brawndo though, its got what cows crave and is endorsed by Beef Supreme. Electrolytes are awesome.
I hope they show the city council meeting if they get attacked by zombies. That would be priceless. Zombies crave your brains. Never trust a zombie.
I promised myself not to get involved with certain bloggers, but I can not sit here and not comment. My husband was a veteran of the Vietnam war and I had a folded flag handed to me at his funeral service. He spent 22 years of his life defending people so their famalies can be insulted by you. I am very proud of my husband. I just hope your parents can say the same about you one day.
Thank you for your comment CBWill. I am so tired of these so called liberals that continue to put down the people that have fought for their right to post this anti american crap on blog pages such as this. I have dicided that DL is very unamerican and should not let the door hit her in the butt when she uses her passport to depart this wonderful USA and especially Bulloch County.
When I first moved to Bulloch County I was in a small restaurant having lunch one day. I sat at a table alone,at the table next to me an elderly man also having lunch alone.
Two soldiers in uniform came in placed their orders and sat down. When the server brought their meals and checks the older Gentelman walked over to them and said "your money is no good here" thanked them for their service and paid their bill. I almost cried in my sandwich. No one welcomed us home from Nam like that. I think maybe most Americans today have a different outlook on military service and are greatful and proud as I am of our youth that chose to join and serve our great Country in the military.
As far as the military goes we need to remember that Generals Washington, Eisenhower and Smedley Butler all have given warnings about the military. Are all these Generals un-American or do they have a point?
Washington and Eisenhower believed that a large standing army was a danger to the republic. They saw the reality of giving too much power to the military and warned us to beware. Smedley Butler, a three time Medal of Honor recipient wrote his book “War is a Racket" in 1939. He said that the military had become an armed branch of the corporations and was being used to force other countries to give in to American business interests.
This is not a noble endeavor, the use of our troops to strong-arm other countries for the sake of the corporations and that is what the military is doing in Iraq. Sure they may say that they bringing freedom to the Middle East but that is just the lie they are using to fool us here at home.
I do feel sorry for the troops because the politicians who work for the benefit of the big money corporations are using them. It’s very sad but true.
We are not fighting any war for corporations. Maybe you do not recall how upset this country was after 911 but I do. Our army has the ability to kick the crap out of anyone out there and there comes a point where you do not poke a giant in the eye and are suprised when you get a 20 ton bomb dropped into your living room. Iraq was because Sadam would not do what he was told with UN inspectors and he was warned and warned and warned. We have a stake in a more secure middle east for sure but it is not to benefit big corporations but to protect our GDP and the cost of daily things like gas which everyone whines about now. Sadam was a tyrant and the world is better off with him not in it. When there is war there is money to be made but it is not the objective of war. I think we should be doing more myself and should be in Darfor today also.
Wow!! Everyone really needs to relax and sit back and watch a movie, like Idiocracy for example.
Have a grande at that famous coffee place, eat some STAR Jr's. from a vending machine, and finally watch some "OW! My Balls" with President Camacho. Beef Supreme will explain it all to you. You too, one day, can become a Secretary of something.
What *are* these electrolytes? Do you even know?
They're... what they use to make Brawndo!
But *why* do they use them to make Brawndo?
Because Brawndo's got electrolytes.
End of Story.
Dear gwarfan, maybe you missed the part of my comment where I mentioned General Smedley Butler. He was a Marine General and spent his lifetime in the military and he said that the military does indeed fight wars for corporations; he probably knew what he was talking about. Or maybe he was just kidding.
War is a business and one of the biggest in this country; it’s just not a very noble one.
Smedley sounds like a made up name to me. Like General Bubblebee. I believe the guy might have said it and he could also be full of crap. Corporations make money off war, that is going to happen because we need bullets and the like. Bombs do not build themselves. But I do not buy the theory that the government makes wars happen for corporations to make money. I think that is parinoid thinking. I say question the Fed but there are limits to what is real and not real. We would be fighting a lot more if that idea was true i think.
Come on, come on, Wednesday the 30th will be here before we know it. OTB has as much right to his opinions and views as you do, BG.
Or, are you guys getting it all out of your systems before then? Play nice! (smile)
Elvis is a damn odd name. I like to just call him Eap though myself. Eap Eap Eap. Bull who is Him? Tom? It is not about convincing him but maybe finding more of the middle ground we can all agree on and disagree on the left and right of others. oldtom what about the lunar landing? Real or not?
This whole blog challenge thing...Gesh, why dont we all just write blogs about flowers and bunnies. Oh they are soft and pretty. The idea seems good but come one and be real. Fifteen days without a nasty comment? I am not going to try to be nasty for the sake of it but I disagree with folks and I use sarcasim a lot and people get bent out of shape sometimes.
Please do'nt say that ELVIS is a DAMN odd name! Obama is what you call a DAMN odd name!!!!! So speaking softly and sweetly, with smiley's on top, :):) :)don't drag the love of my young years into this forum. I may have to put pepper in your coffee the next time I see you at WH. :):):)
When is the last time the US Armed Forces "defended" this country from attack by another country? You know, foreign military (terrorists are NOT military) personnel actually landing on American soil.
Watchdog, did I even comment on this blog? I don't remember doing it and don't see one.
I never said anyone didn't have a right to there opinions, I just make observations about them and comment on where I see problems. Usually my observations and comments are valid and right on.
Those mentioned that worried about a strong standing military were concerned about a military coup taking control I believe.
