I heard yesterday the "The Dark Knight" took in over 155 million dollars at the box office this past weekend. This broke the opening weekend record of Spider-Man 3. There is something to be learned from this, and it's not that people want to see men in rubber suits or women in tight fitting spandex beating up bad guys. I think people want to see heroes in action.
Don't we all like to complain about our leaders and how relentlessly they do hardly anything to solve our nation's problems? I get frustrated thinking about how much could be done if more good people ran the show. The rest of us have to settle for watching a rich man dress up in a cool suit and fight crime. It is truly sad that Batman and Spider-man are the ones who show us what it's like for good people to get involved.
I'm well aware that there is a large number of individuals who make a difference every day. I'm not suggesting most of us sit by and do nothing, far from it in fact. I'm talking about the people who can make a real difference for millions of people. Most of our leaders simply do what they want to do, typically for their interests and not ours.
I hope we can learn that as much as we like these superhero movies, we need to encourage our leaders to be more like the heroes in the films.

I haven't seen that movie yet, but did go see Hancock. I want to see it again, and will buy it when it comes out on video. Will Smith rocks. The movie has a twist that will knock you from your seat, too.

You mean like Adam West as the major on Family Guy.

The real beauty of a Super Hero is they do not have to solve a problem that may not have a cure. They fight a person or group of people. It is not like Batmanis going to cure cancer while fighting the Joker. Spider-Man is not going to feed all the homeless, teach the children to read, and then take out Sandman. There is so much red tape in politics, waiting, debating, and other trash they have to wade through to get a park built is insane. We left the days when a man became major to make a difference in the community and be a real leader. Its all glam and sham now. Just like a real super villan.

Right on, Gwarfan. I think it's becoming all about the underdog...the people in the community that are not figureheads who set out to make a difference.

I think it is really sad that we have to look for super heroes on the big screen to see good being done for man kind. Most of the people that run for public office start off with good intentions. Some where along the way greed and coruption take over and we are right back where we started or maybe worse. I hope I get to see a real live super hero do something for this great country I call home before I move to my home called enternity.
