This July 4 holiday, there are so many things to see and do in and around Statesboro that it was difficult for me and my friends to decide on where we wanted to go. There's the fireworks display at Mill Creek Park in Statesboro, fireworks on Tybee Island and River Street in Savannah, the Fort Morris Colonial Fair in Midway, local music and fireworks at Cottrell Field near Fort Stewart, and more.
Since no one in my group of friends have ever seen the fireworks display over the Savannah River on River Street, we decided to secure a hotel room on Bay Street for the night (no way are we going to try to fight traffic to come home that night) and check out the festivities. I am looking forward to spending my afternoon on the beach at Tybee Island before heading into Savannah for the fireworks display, but not before we make a quick stop to grab a spinach-and-feta pizza from Vinnie Van GoGo’s in City Market. And I'll be taking plenty of pictures throughout the trip.
However you choose to celebrate Independence Day, be sure to bring your camera with you on your adventures. The “Show Us Summer contest is in full swing, and this is a great opportunity for you to capture the essence of summer in a photo and upload it onto the Web!
So far, we’ve seen pictures of fishing trips, afternoons at the beach and many more activities where our readers are having summer fun in the sun.
Don’t forget to vote on your favorite submissions… Click on the “Show Us Summer banner at the top of the www.statesboroherald.com home page, and view what other readers have submitted so far under the “Approved Submissions tab. Beneath each photo is a drop-down “Feedback Vote where you can vote for each submission on a 1 (lowest) through 10 (highest) scale.
Whether you venture out of town for the holiday or choose to stay in the Boro, have a safe and happy 4th of July.
