I want to thank everyone who came out Wednesday night for the Democratic primary debate for US House District 12. Frankly, it was one of the more informative debates I've seen in a while, as both candidates really focused on the issues instead of resorting to bloviating or personal attacks.

Next Tuesday we will have a Senatorial Democratic Primary Debate - again held at Ogeechee Tech, in the main auditorium, at 7 p.m. Please attend.

In addition, the Senate debate will be streamed live over the Internet though statesboroherald.com. This means those out in the county can see the debate LIVE on their computers.

And we're attempting to get a Republican US House Dist. 12 primary debate for later next week. We'll keep you posted.

No personnal attacks. The way she went after him and tried to twist some of his votes! LOL!!! Cute. But guess that point of view defends some others actions right?

The personal attacks were minimal, but yes, Thomas did challenge Barrow on his voting record. Whether or not those attacks were justified or successful, I leave up to the individual to decide. There was policy debate, there was disagreement on the effectiveness of certain votes but, compared to many other debates from this election cycle, I heard relatively few personal attacks (or nonsensical discussions about lapel pins for that matter) and those I heard were relatively subdued.

Make sure you come to the Senate debate next week or check out the live streaming here on the site.

We'll post a "Breaking News Alert" Tuesday night.

I just happened to check the website during the debate.

I don't really know much about politics, but from my novice perspective, I thought Thomas tried to attack Barrow on his voting but Barrow countered with good explanations for his decision to vote one way or another.

What did other people think about the debate?

Yeah I don't really support Barrow, but she was rude and trying to spin a lot of his votes. It was clear she had a battle plan, but he was good with his responses.

I thought it was funny that what she was doing to him, is the way he beat Max Burns. He mislead people about some of the things Max supported, such as the Fair tax. I am not a big supporter of the fair tax, because it won't work without Government control, but he told some half stories about it.

I will be out of town Tuesday evening and sadly will miss the debate. Although, I do want to encourage the Herald to not plan these events on Wednesday evenings. Many people in our city and county attend and are involved with their local church on those evenings. Most other evenings work much better and would probably provide a much better turnout. :-)

We scheduled the debates based upon the schedules of the participating candidates and the availability of the space.

Unfortunately, no matter what night is ultimately coordinated, there will be individuals who have personal conflicts and will be unable to attend. This is unavoidable.

However, for those who are unable to attend our upcoming debates, we will (attempt to) record the debate in full and post it on the Web site for future viewing, in addition to offering the live streaming feed.

We hope these three options will enable anyone who's interested to check out the debates and hear the positions of the candidates.
