Surprised by the Masters leaderboard?

Take Me To Post Comment Form

AUGUSTA – Justin Rose, Trevor Immelman, Brian Bateman, Brandt Snedeker and Lee Westwood.

Surprised by the five names atop the Masters leaderboard after the first round Thursday?

Me too.

But maybe not completely shocked.

Here’s a quick look on why you should keep an eye on both Rose and Westwood.

Rose: The 27-year-old Englishman has had success in Augusta. He held the 36-hole lead back in 2004 before collapsing with an 81 the next day. Late in the final round last year, he was only one shot out of the lead before double bogeying the 17th. Plus he’s made a steady climb up the world golf rankings, moving from 51st in 2006 to sixth by posting top 12 finishes in all four majors. He’s playing in his fourth Masters.

Westwood: Also from England, this 34-year-old is currently ranked 19th with 26 career worldwide victories. Eighteen of those wins came on the PGA European Tour, and he was once ranked as high as No. 4. He’s making his eighth Masters appearance and has steadily put together a host of top 10 finishes.

But it's only Thursday. So stay tuned.

Tiger's always lurking.
