Are you ready for a lot of Statesboro baseball? Well, it doesn't matter if you are or not, because the Diamond Devils are about to begin a 5-game homestand over the next 10 days.

There's no question Statesboro has struggled this year - maybe a little bit unexpectedly. The good news is, they know, I know and you know that this team is better than its record.

Coach Chris Bishop said to me one day, "If there were an RPI in high school baseball, Statesboro would be right at the top."

That won't change over the coming days, either, as SHS will face Liberty County (8-2) on Tuesday and Blessed Trinity (10-3) and Jenkins (5-8) in a doubleheader at Georgia Southern on Thursday. Don't let Jenkins fool you - they're undefeated in region 3-AAAAA play.

Statesboro will undoubtedly be looking at these three non-region games to get their bats going. In their nine losses this year, SHS is scoring less than three runs a game. Only twice have they scored more than three runs in losses and only once have they scored less than three in a win.

Look for the Devils to be a little more aggressive this week at the plate. These games don't matter in the standings - but they may mean plenty in the psyche.

As for soccer, the SHS boys have played three straight games in which the match was decided on penalties. They're 2-1 in those games, earning themselves a state tourney berth and a date with Lakeside on Tuesday, April 15 for the a No. 3 seed.
