The Presbyterian Church has recognized the tremendous contribution made by women of faith for many years.
In 1930, the Presbyterian Church ordained the first woman elder. In 1956, it ordained the first woman minister. In 1964, the southern Presbyterian Church (PCUS) ordained its first woman minister. Today, the church is bless by so many hard working and faithful women.
This Sunday, an honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterain Women organization will be conferred upon a special individual in recognition of faithful service in the Church's work. Previous honories have included Ellie James, Adele Hooley, Donell Akers, Charlene Mann, Helen Winstead, Ann Mons, Judy Schomber, Betty Barr, Louise Campbell, Emily Broucek, Beverly Presley, Barbara Deal, Martha Benson, Lillian Thompson, Mary Sherer, Virginia Russell, Elain Hulst and Estelle Strickland.
Georgia Southern's Yin Xu Moore will be leading the musical portion of worship, as First Presbyterian Church celebrates the gifts of women this Sunday. Yin Xu Moore is a shining example of a woman gifted by God. Having completed studies at Shengyang Music Conservatory in China and also earned a Masters of Divinity and Masters of Church Music Degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, she has talents that will bless many as they seek to worship God.
