Monday February 11th at 1:30, local caregivers will meet at the First Methodist Church in room 111. Caregivers of family members with dementia causing illness such as Alzheimer's disease are encouraged to participate in this support group to discuss issues of mutual concern, learn about techniques that physical and occupational therapists suggest, check out a book, watch a video or support other caregivers.
Alzheimer's disease gradually changes the physical structure of the brain leaving a person unable to communicate, analyze and physically respond as he or she did before the neurological damage to the neurons in the brain occured.
During the middle stage of Alzheimer's type dementia, the patient may become unsteady, restless, begin repetivie movements, wander away from home, and lose the ability to manipulate small objects such as buttons and tools. It is not unusual for the person to gather unrelated objects, lose or hide other people's possessions, sleep too little or too much. The individual may lose the sense of touch and smell and forget that they have eaten or taken medicine.
This group is affiliated with the Alzheimer's Association and the group meets the second Monday of each month at 1:30 at Statesboro First Methodist Church 101 South Main Street.
Please enter from the Walnut Street entrance.
