Dear Readers,
We had a grand night this Nov. 2nd First Friday. West Main Art Gallery and Studios hosted Vilas Tonape painting
a portrait of Statesboro's own Mayor Hatcher. Seating was available for artists and guests to study method and technique used by Mr. Tonape. We met so many kind people that night enjoying the Averitt Center activities, the student exhibit at Susan's Gallery 33 West, and many of the other businesses open for the evening.
Vilas Tonape began the portrait at 5pm as our guests began arriving. His confidence in his skills were apparent and supported by the completion of the Mayors portrait by 6:30 pm. Vilas Tonape and the West Main Gallery and Studios were able to present the finished portrait to the Mayor at that time. Vilas Tonape will be available, through this Gallery, for commissioned portraits. Come view Mayor Hatchers ortrait for yourself as he was kind enough to leave it with us for display.
A special thanks is due to our kind neighbor and friend, Dan Greenway , owner of Gallery of Frames on East Main. We were in a panic to have a frame immediately , within hours of the Mayors arrival. Dan saved the day , crafting the frame and cutting the mat and the glass. Furthermore Dan contributed all his work to the Mayor and the success of our event. Thanks again.
Special thanks to Pat Homer and Cicely Sikes at the
Statesboro Herald for shepherding me through blogging and coming to see and encourage us.
Don't forget the Second Saturday Art Walks in Swainsboro coming up this Saturday. Art, music, people , and food...doesn't get any better.
Oops time to sweep, turn off the lights, and close the shop. Good night Lesley
