Seriously folks...is there anything new happening here??....NO!!....has not everyone been watching the butchering by one group of another throughout the Middle East and in particular in Iraq and Syria and Afghanistan???....the only thing that has changed here is the group doing the killing...

ISIS, the umbrella organization of fighters leading a charge into the heart of Iraq is just the last in a list of at least ten or fifteen different groups who have sought to take over, continue to maintain control, display their display with the government in charges apparent direction - whomever is in charge at the moment -,or just disrupt normal life (if there has been such a thing) in Iraq since the British established the Hashemite Kingdom...

the murders this report alleges...which almost assuredly did take place just as described...is nothing new or unusual or exceptional for daily goings on in the Middle East....death en-mass is actually displayed in videos released literally by the dozens everyday....in several countries where there is no law and order or semblance of stability...primarily at the moment Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria....so what is the reason these murders are being so reported when all the others are being ignored or at least mentioned just briefly???

as a historian, and someone extremely well-versed in the history of the Middle East...it is my firm belief that these men and women currently operating umbrella of ISIS are doing nothing any differently than are any of the other groups battling each other in countries previously mentioned.....they are just not doing it with and end game which suits the wishes of the American government......so they are being labelled by the press as gunmen, terrorists, thugs and more....instead of rebels or freedom fighters...

please dont get me wrong...i am no way approving of nor supporting ISIS' actions or intentions...I just think the truth should be maintained no matter whose sight those being described ion news reports such as this are on....so let me explain what ISIS is NOT...and what it is...

ISIS fighters are not Sunni Muslims, whom inhabit the northern areas of Iraq and the eastern areas of Syria, who have for years been fighting to overthrow those governments which adhere to the beliefs of the Shia sect of Islam...which means they are the deadly enemy not only of the current government of Iraq but of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well..

nor are they Kurdish fighters, members of the dreaded Peshmerga battalions who defend the Kurdish Autonomous Republic of Iraq....who were so steadfast in their opposition to the Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein that this baddest of bad guys was forced to allow them to become independent of his central governments control and leave them alone.....

this group of fighters is determined to establish the Islamic Republic of Iraq and Syria....and that idea doesnt sit well with ANY of the existing governments in the Middle East.....including Syria, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Afghanistan....nor does it make any of the worlds colonial powers happy, whom include the United States, Russia, Great Britain and much of the rest of Western Europe...although maybe the term colonial is no longer appropriate these governments still cant resist meddling in the politics of these weak, disorganized, and fractured countries...

So what is the answer here??...what should we do??...has anyone asked my opinion??...no, but im going to offer it anyways.....first, pull back militarily and see where the dominoes fall...and then try to make the best of whatever comes of all these struggles......

and secondly, offer every group our humanitarian assistance with no strings attached.....of course this includes try to limit the suffering of those wounded in the fighting.....but much more importantly help the innocents whose lives have been turned into nightmares into something in which they can survive until the fighting has stopped and then hopefully attempt to return their everyday ordinary lives...if that is at all possible....

A chastened Saddam Hussein could have been a check against Iran. A hands off policy for Syria would have ended the carnage in Syria long ago.The devil we know is better than the devil we don't know.
The US project of nation building should be confined to this country. We have no aptitude for empire.

Hallelujah! Hamas has finally agreed along with Israel to a cease-fire for 72 hours, based on the exact same conditions to stop fighting as the cease-fire they refused to sign off on one month ago. Too bad that Hamas actually rules Gaza and the Gazans have no say in their ...

July 30, 2014
So, Israel said they started their ground offensive into Gaza to destroy the tunnels Hamas had constructed, largely it seems with the supplies given to the Gazans for constructing public facilities above ground. Well, to be more precise, since Hamas governs Gaza they were given to the Hamas administration, which ...
