Brooklet City Council Understands
Brooklet Correspondents

Take Me To Post Comment Form

I was very pleased to see that the Brooklet City Council did the right thing on Thursday night.

Part of the right thing was to vote, 4-0, in favor of keeping the Brooklet Police Dept intact.

But the BIGGEST thing the Brooklet City Council did Thursday night was to listen to the town’s citizens and correctly gage the will of the people. Clearly, the people wanted to keep the Brooklet PD. Once the council saw the support and listened to the concerns of the people, Councilman Newman made a motion to keep the Brooklet PD and the motion carried.

Many folks made comments afterward that THIS is how democracy works. Yes – it is. And it does work.

We the People elect representatives to run our government, not to dictate to us. These representatives are accountable to us, the People. I am sure there were some members of the Council who may have felt, personally, that the best option was to dissolve the Police Dept and contract with the Bulloch Co. Sheriff’s office. However, they put aside their personal desire to follow the will of the people.

Thanks to Mayor William Hendrix, Councilman Randy Newman, Councilman Jim Stanoff, Councilman Greg Schilerf, and Councilman Tom McElwee for listening. You’re good guys, and you served the town well last night – not only for voting to keep the Brooklet PD, but for listening to the People.

Another Double Standard?
June 12, 2013
Here is a quick question to get the juices flowing this morning. What is the difference in these two situations? #1 – A political campaign uses music released by an artist. The artist does not agree with the political aims of that party and has their lawyer request that the ...
