It’s January, and like many of you, I’ll be lacing up my shiny, new sneakers and getting ready to hit the gym. I’m making all kinds of New Year’s resolutions, and I’m hoping most of them stick.
In honor of all of the promises we’re making ourselves, this month’s issue of Moments focuses on finance, building personal relationships, healthful eating and, of course, fitness.
Our Cover Mom this month is Lavene Koepke, a local woman whose decision to get healthy for her family has led her on an incredible weight-loss and fitness journey. She has lost 115 pounds in 18 months and has found her joy along the way. Read her inspiring story on page 12.
Our Go Girl this month is Marcella Jones, a woman who has opened her heart and home to help underprivileged children in the community. She has six children, two biological and four adopted. In November 2013, her girls’ home, Marcella’s Community SafeHouse, Inc., became a licensed nonprofit residential facility. There, she can care for up to six girls ages 13-17. Read about her on page 14.
Lawn and garden columnist Erinn Cowart reminds us why it’s important to care for the lawn, even in winter. Dad columnist Scott Garner shares a few giggle-worthy revelations about parenting. And new this month, assistant editor Hunter McCumber kicks off his column, “Hunter’s How To,” walking us through creating a sun-dyed tote – a project that’s exciting for adults and children.
We hope you enjoy this edition. See you at the gym!
