IF you have not watched Al Jazeera America (Channel 358 on Direct TV), please give it a try. Some very good objective reporting on the international front and the national.

I have not watched a lot of diffeent programs, predominantly the 6 PM news and the money show with Ali Vesli at 7 PM, along with a little of the morning news.

It certainly beats CNN, Fox, MSNBC and the rest.

did you notice some of the anchors used to be on cnn? the name al jazeera may put some people off but i found that it is actually a very good network

DRL, yes I did notice CNN because the showbiz aspect comes through in the anchors. I don't like the Wolf Blitzer stand in the screen style. Probably says more about me than the news. The reports and reporters impress me, particularly on international events.

Format needs improving because I don't need to hear about a 15' alligator on national news. I'll see it three times on local. Stick with global and national events and emphsis on depth of coverage.

I caught it on the first day and found it to be adequate but a bit amateurish.

Other than hard news which Fox, CNN and the rest already cover well I found it to be just more talking heads...

I have watched Aljazeera news for the last couple years on Link TV.

I found it to be surprisingly neutral on most topics except for anything to do with Israel.

I haven’t managed to catch the new channel yet but look forward to seeing how it compares.

Hunter, try it again. I too thought the first day was weak. The black anchorman came across as doing a bad Captain Kirk impression. But, the anchors have improved and the news reports are still head and shoulders above any other.

Speculation in the Media
September 17, 2015
Here's a link to a talk Michael Crichton gave in 2002 about speculation in (not only) the media. It is as relevant today if not more so. As a viewer of Sunday morning news shows such as Meet the Press, I find the quality and information presented of continually eroding ...

Where is everyone?
September 07, 2015
Well, there certainly has been a paucity of posts for the last month or so. Is it because everyone has run out of things to be a) outraged about, b) ecstatic about, c) wondrous of, or d) none of the above? Have those lower than a snake's belly in a ...

Canfederate Memorial
July 12, 2015
In Dublin where I grew up, there was a memorial to Confederate soldiers in front of the “old” library downtown. It's provenance and inscription were probably similar, I presume, to the one at the Bulloch courthouse.. As a youth, I read it, filed it away as history, and forgot it. ...

Charleston Shooting
June 23, 2015
A horrific act by a sick (not insane) person and major news coverage is about removing the confederate flag from the grounds of the state capitol and from Wal -Mart. Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic rather than answering the question, "Where's all this damn water coming from? "
