IF you have not watched Al Jazeera America (Channel 358 on Direct TV), please give it a try. Some very good objective reporting on the international front and the national.

I have not watched a lot of diffeent programs, predominantly the 6 PM news and the money show with Ali Vesli at 7 PM, along with a little of the morning news.

It certainly beats CNN, Fox, MSNBC and the rest.

did you notice some of the anchors used to be on cnn? the name al jazeera may put some people off but i found that it is actually a very good network

DRL, yes I did notice CNN because the showbiz aspect comes through in the anchors. I don't like the Wolf Blitzer stand in the screen style. Probably says more about me than the news. The reports and reporters impress me, particularly on international events.

Format needs improving because I don't need to hear about a 15' alligator on national news. I'll see it three times on local. Stick with global and national events and emphsis on depth of coverage.

I caught it on the first day and found it to be adequate but a bit amateurish.

Other than hard news which Fox, CNN and the rest already cover well I found it to be just more talking heads...

I have watched Aljazeera news for the last couple years on Link TV.

I found it to be surprisingly neutral on most topics except for anything to do with Israel.

I haven’t managed to catch the new channel yet but look forward to seeing how it compares.

Hunter, try it again. I too thought the first day was weak. The black anchorman came across as doing a bad Captain Kirk impression. But, the anchors have improved and the news reports are still head and shoulders above any other.

Homeland Security

An incumbent president issues an executive order. The opposition party can't block it legislatively because they don't have the votes. The states exercise the Federal courts and block implementation. Appeals pending. Constitution working just fine. Cannot say the same for politicians.

County Commission

Soundoff always has people complaining about the quality of the dirt roads they live on and the ineptitude of the county public works in maintaining them. Disregarding the fact that these roads were probably not paved when the complainers moved in, I decided to check it out in my neck ...

No Health Insurance for BOE Parttimers

I have to say this is the most mean spirited, short sighted, and all around lousy idea I have heard from the governor's mouth, and he's had some doozies. These people transport our children and feed them 150+ days a year. They work part time because that's what the jobs ...

Facebook

Sometime ago Charles Howell wrote about the futility of expressing a political opinion on Facebook and the vehemence (my word) and name calling (writing?) which spewed forth through the ether. Being a non-user at the time I empathized but failed to appreciate the exceptionally weakminded, profane individuals populating Facebook (insert ...

Senate Bills

Comments I sent to Sen. Hill and Rep. Tankersly (Jack and Jan in the future). I support some and asked questions about bothers because they concern me based on the synopsis (and I'm too pooped to research and decipher the individual bills themselves). SB 2- Allows local school boards to ...
