IF you have not watched Al Jazeera America (Channel 358 on Direct TV), please give it a try. Some very good objective reporting on the international front and the national.

I have not watched a lot of diffeent programs, predominantly the 6 PM news and the money show with Ali Vesli at 7 PM, along with a little of the morning news.

It certainly beats CNN, Fox, MSNBC and the rest.

did you notice some of the anchors used to be on cnn? the name al jazeera may put some people off but i found that it is actually a very good network

DRL, yes I did notice CNN because the showbiz aspect comes through in the anchors. I don't like the Wolf Blitzer stand in the screen style. Probably says more about me than the news. The reports and reporters impress me, particularly on international events.

Format needs improving because I don't need to hear about a 15' alligator on national news. I'll see it three times on local. Stick with global and national events and emphsis on depth of coverage.

I caught it on the first day and found it to be adequate but a bit amateurish.

Other than hard news which Fox, CNN and the rest already cover well I found it to be just more talking heads...

I have watched Aljazeera news for the last couple years on Link TV.

I found it to be surprisingly neutral on most topics except for anything to do with Israel.

I haven’t managed to catch the new channel yet but look forward to seeing how it compares.

Hunter, try it again. I too thought the first day was weak. The black anchorman came across as doing a bad Captain Kirk impression. But, the anchors have improved and the news reports are still head and shoulders above any other.

Voting Rights for Virginia Felons
April 27, 2016
Well, the governor of Virginia has restored voting rights for felons who have served their sentences and been released. Immediately, and as expected, right wing pundits decry this as a Democratic ploy to get more votes for Hillary. Who are they kidding? Folks, let's face reality. They're felons, certainly not ...

An open letter to Sens.Perdue and Isakson, Dear Sirs: I am greatly offended at your refusal to carry out the Constitutional duties each of you were elected to perform. Your stance that the American people need to have a voice in the next nominee is disingenuous. The American people exercised ...

Trolling for Dollars

My wife and I recently updated our wills and as a result had to record a deed restructuring property ownership. No big deal. $ 50 something to record and done. Less than two weeks later I get a letter from an outfit in California offering to get me a copy ...

Sauce for the goose?

Reading Jack's "Notes From the Senate" (which I highly recommend for everyone) for the past week and found an interesting proposed law passed by the Senate. Inappropriate Reactions
December 21, 2015
What concerns me about the Middle East (among the many things too numerous to list) is our response to occurrences. People are killed in San Bernadino by a native born American and his legally resident wife who is from neither Iraq nor Syria, nor is she a refugee. Forget the ...
