IF you have not watched Al Jazeera America (Channel 358 on Direct TV), please give it a try. Some very good objective reporting on the international front and the national.

I have not watched a lot of diffeent programs, predominantly the 6 PM news and the money show with Ali Vesli at 7 PM, along with a little of the morning news.

It certainly beats CNN, Fox, MSNBC and the rest.

did you notice some of the anchors used to be on cnn? the name al jazeera may put some people off but i found that it is actually a very good network

DRL, yes I did notice CNN because the showbiz aspect comes through in the anchors. I don't like the Wolf Blitzer stand in the screen style. Probably says more about me than the news. The reports and reporters impress me, particularly on international events.

Format needs improving because I don't need to hear about a 15' alligator on national news. I'll see it three times on local. Stick with global and national events and emphsis on depth of coverage.

I caught it on the first day and found it to be adequate but a bit amateurish.

Other than hard news which Fox, CNN and the rest already cover well I found it to be just more talking heads...

I have watched Aljazeera news for the last couple years on Link TV.

I found it to be surprisingly neutral on most topics except for anything to do with Israel.

I haven’t managed to catch the new channel yet but look forward to seeing how it compares.

Hunter, try it again. I too thought the first day was weak. The black anchorman came across as doing a bad Captain Kirk impression. But, the anchors have improved and the news reports are still head and shoulders above any other.

HB 170

Some comments I sent to our local state representatives regarding needed fuel tax increases to improve and maintain our transportation infrastructure. I'm writing to express my general opinion on House Bill 170 and Georgia's transportation needs. First, let me address the concept of “revenue neutrality” which seems to be the ...

Yemen

As yet another US ally's president is deposed (resigns) by insurgents, laments grow anew of the failed policy of Obama in the Middle East. Guess what? It's not his fault (and it's not Bush's fault either}. Here are two sites for a quick review of Yemeni politics and US efforts ...

FDA regulations setting calorie maximums: Don't know the ins and outs of this proposal but the first thing I thought of: It's a plot by processed food purveyors in conjunction with the FDA to reduce volume (thus cutting calories) while maintaining profit margins in face of rising production costs. We'll ...

PSC District 4 Race
October 30, 2014
Well, seems we're discussing all the races that put up the most (volume) negative ads and supposedly will have national impact. So, I want to write about a pocketbook race between Bubba McDonald and Daniel Blackman for a PSC seat. McDonald has been in the PSC since 1998 and in ...

To or not to do - what
September 01, 2014
I watched the Sunday morning news shows (NBC and CBS) and listened to supposedly qualified pundits – experts, knowledgeable people, or whatever term you prefer – discourse on what we should do about ISIS and the Ukraine. Not once did I hear anyone dare raise the issue of whether we ...
