Hi,

Been away far too long.

One of these days when the one person decides to hold up a pizza or sandwich delivery person, they will hold up the wrong one. The delivery person will be a Navy Seal, Green Beret, or Marine Infantryman and the night will turn out differently for the mugger.

Yes, the mugger will survive but he or she will be sitting in a nice little room with bars all around them.

Go ahead mugger, "Do you feel lucky?"

Better yet the pizza delivery guy/gal will leave the service, be accorded the dignity he or she deserves and find a job that pays a living wage. Too many veterans are treated like castoffs.

Fly, Charlie.

I agree with you, but you either missed his point or chose to ignore it.

I know from experience that around military bases, mugging the delivery guys is not such a fun past time because the delivery guys are often active duty earning some extra cash.

Charlie,

You are correct. Things would be different around here if we had a few off duty military heroes making deliveries. It would be nice if the nice guys won every once in awhile..

Fly,

It would be better if our heroes in the military did not have to depend upon taxpayer handouts to support their low income. I'm glad some seek outside employment to help pay the bills. If we paid our heroes a little better, they would not be in that situation. I read a report a few years ago that stated nearly 20% of enlisted personnel were receiving taxpayer handouts in addition to their salary. Something tells me that is a failure of our society.

Of course, learning to be frugal never hurt anyone.

The garden fountain

Hi, As I was sitting next to the garden fountain in a certain famous restaurant on South Main, I wondered where the stuffed parrots were in the trees. Wouldn't it be nice to see stuffed birds in the garden along with sounds of a tropical rain forest - or the ...

Drive-by Windows
February 27, 2014
Hi, Some of us are wise enough to stay away from the drive-by windows. Others, could not survive in an ice storm without them. There must be a better way to order dinner than yelling back and forth through a speaker system that never works properly. Repeating orders while yelling ...

Is Mr. Lewis having a bad day?
January 28, 2014
http://www.statesboroherald.com/section/1/article/56660/ According to the article printed in today's Herald (1/28/14), Councilman Lewis is blaming some of his troubles on store owners who come from India or Indian heritage. Why would a man who has lived through some of the darkest of times in our society lash out at others in ...

It's a bittersweet Christmas
December 26, 2013
Hi, For many GSU football fans, we are sad to see Coach Monken leave our field of gladiators in favor of coaching another great set of heroes. We wish him well and much success. We were hoping we could see a great match-up at Bobby Dodd stadium against Paul Johnson. ...
