Independence Day is my absolute favorite holiday. Stories of the American Revolution have always fascinated me, and readings of the Declaration of Independence evoke strong feelings of patriotism. I also love the Fourth of July for the hot summer weather, the delicious summer cuisine – watermelon especially – and, of course, the beautiful fireworks displays.
In this issue of Moments, we wanted to draw attention to local military families who sacrifice so much so we can continue to enjoy our freedoms. We decided to highlight the lives of three local military women in this issue: Cora Wilkerson, who has served in the U.S. Army for 12 years and military wives, Whitney John and Cover Mom Stephanie Neal. Each of these incredible women have special stories, and their families make daily sacrifices for us and our country.
We also have articles on entertaining outdoors, flag etiquette and ways you can give back to the military.
We at Moments want to say “thank you” to our military families and want to encourage all of our readers to thank a military member for his or her amazing courage and for everything they risk and sacrifice while serving to protect us -- missing birthdays, Christmases, first steps and even the daily grind we take for granted.
Have a safe and happy July!
