What does 2013 have in store for us? Do you have any predictions? Do you have an inside rumor about a new business starting up in Bulloch County?

Let's try not to focus on politics for this one folks. There are things in life other than political discussions. Art & Entertainment, weather, gardening, home improvement, Science & Technology, Sports, and personal fitness just to name a few.

Just to get us started...

In the fall of 2013 we will be visited by Comet ISON for the first time in recent recorded history. There is some speculation that this comet is the Great Comet of 1680. About ISON, the consensus thus far is the comet will be brighter than a full moon. A few predictions state you will be able to see it during the day. Walkie suggests you read up on this comet as it will pass by earth very closely on Dec. 26th of this year.

Walkie's prediction is that it won't be as bright as some are stating.

Walkie's other predictions: The new Star Trek movie coming out in May will break all box office records for any movie in recent history. A big name chain restaurant will open in the Boro. Statesboro will lose a home-town restaurant.

The economy will continue to grow slowly. Georgia Southern and Ogeechee Tech will once again announce record enrollments. 2013 will be a record hot year surpassing or equaling the 1 degree Fahrenheit increase of 2012.

Ison may equal Kahoutek in overpublicity and lack of impressiveness. But I will be watching to find out.

Thank you for asking people not to mention the thing that I will not mention!

I am so looking forward to Fall when "Catching Fire" comes out. I know it may sound like a silly thing to look so forward to, but what can I say, I'm easily amused.

I predict that this year's boys in Blue and Gold will finally put our football team back on the map like it used to be. Go Jackets!

I also predict that like Walkie said, more big box will replace local in the 'Boro. I've been saying for years that it's becoming "Little Savannah" more and more.

GSU football will invite N Dakota State to the 'Boro for some payback in the playoffs.

Star Trek and Catching Fire will do well, but this time next year we will all be talking about Smaug the dragon from "The Hobbit."

A comet during the day? I will definitely be watching!!

The Forgotten One who needs our prayers

"Tragic" doesn't seem like a strong enough word to express what happened earlier this week in the Eagle Nation. During our process of coping, let us not forget the truck driver and his family. He is going through a condition known as "survivor's guilt" which can lead to severe depression...or ...

The Spring Breakers
March 25, 2015
Hi, Will someone please enlighten Walkie? He needs to know what Spring Break was like during the days when Annette Funicello was a common household name? The years surrounding Woodstock? The days of Disco music? The magical 80's? Some news media organizations have recently focused on the current trends in ...

RIP Internet
February 27, 2015
With the internet on the verge of becoming regulated after Thursday's vote by the FCC, Walkie is saying "Just Dang!" (Language cleaned up) As someone who has been employed in the information technology field since the early 1980's, Walkie has seen many changes. He remembers a time when the internet ...

Who does that guy think he is?
February 09, 2015
Hi, Have you seen the guy wearing a coon cap around town? He has been spotted around town at various restaurants, grocery stores, and other establishments. I overheard one woman telling her friends that he is kind of a manly man and was definitely trying to check him out. Who ...

And to think...
September 13, 2014
The sports season is still young and anything can happen later on. However, knowing there are some people around here that think the move to the Sun Belt Conference and the FBS was a bad decision...leaves Walkie speechless. I'm just not talking football. The other GSU sports teams are doing ...
