Local Food Inspections

Hi,

The State of Georgia has the responsibility of inspecting each establishment that serves food to the public.

Should the State of Georgia have the authority to shut down a restaurant for one day for receiving a score of 89 or below on a food service inspection? For one week for a score of 79 or below?

Each establishment serving food has a checklist of items every inspector will grade them on. They may not know when the inspection will take place, but at least they know the criteria.

If the operators of the joint inspect themselves every night before closing, the grades would hopefully be better. People in Bulloch County would be at less risk of getting sick after a meal.

And for those of you who like to drive up to the loud speaker (or drive by window) and order - have you noticed their food inspection rating is not visible? Yes, it's visible if you walk in, but it is hard to find from the driver's seat. Yes, it might be displayed at the pick-up window. However, wouldn't the drive-up menu be a more appropriate place?

What say you?

Walkie, Self inspection just does not work.It is simply to easy to fudge. Good operators already have standards---but it is the bad apples that spoil the whole barrel. Thank God someone is watching.

Fly,

Yes. Someone is watching.

I'm not talking replacing or removing the health department inspectors from the mix. I'm talking about self-responsibility.

What is preventing an owner from self-checking themselves each and every night before closing? A little bit of responsibility goes a long way towards success.

If they did do self-inspects, the health department food inspectors would have an easy job of inspecting the joint when they arrive. Every place would have an A.

Walkie, You would be amazed at some of the shenanigans that go on in even the most expensive restaurants.Unfortunately, personal responsibility is often in short supply -so to borrow from Ronald Reagan, " Trust but verify!"
