One giant fall for mankind

Hi,

Neil Armstrong took one giant leap for mankind; however,
Mr. Baumgartner has taken one giant fall for mankind. At nearly 24 miles, this fall was one heck of a fall.

The reasons for your space jump may have been selfish in nature, but your accomplishment has made a positive difference for humankind. It took a very gutsy person to attempt what you did, and you succeeded. Congratulations.

I hope you have many more successful jumps.

Not since 1960 has anyone been successful at space jumping. You surpassed the previous person by some 25,000 feet or more.

This accomplishment will lead to other types of accomplishments, and may one day save the life of an astronaut.

Thank you.

Angie and I watched this live. When he went into the flat spin, I sent Angie into another room. SOOO glad he came out of it and had a controlled descent.

Walkie, I think you and I have joined the rest of the world in saying, "What a brave man, so glad it was a safe jump. Congratulations!!"

I just realized, the jump from space was on the anniversary of Chuck Yeager's great accomplishment a few decades ago. What is even more amazing, while Baumgartner was busy dropping in for diner, Chuck Yeager was busy flying shotgun in an F-15 to celebrate the anniversary of his speed stunt.

I guess October 14 will go down in history as the "need for speed" day.

Congrats to all who made it happen. Thanks to those who supported and followed the progress of this project.

Sorry, meant to type "dropping in for dinner."

Since a major energy drink producer was behind this stunt, I guess we will see a great Super Bowl commercial based from this event.

Summer vacations will also become interesting. Why should we go bungee jumping when we can go space jumping?

Put a jet pack on the back of the suit and you have a flying Iron Man adventure.

Yes, this opens up new opportunities for fun and adventure. However, let's remind ourselves - it is very dangerous. Someone tried in 1961 after the success from the previous year and did not live long to talk about it.

Congratulations are still in order though. We have taken humanity to a new height.

Charlie,

Yes, the out of control spinning was a symbol that anything can go wrong at anytime.

Some see problems as an opportunity for success - and indeed it turned out that way.
