Private individuals can sell a firearm to another private individual without any paperwork or waiting period. I would recommend you insist on a bill of sale just to cover you in case of any questions and never buy a firearm with an altered serial number because that makes it an illegal weapon.

No wonder it is so easy for criminals to get a hold of guns. I am for the second amendment but shouldn't even private sales be screened somehow?
Criminals get hold of guns lots of ways but I don't think buying them from private owners is high on the list. Breaking in and stealing them is more their modus operandi.
yeah i don't see a way to screen private sales...but i do worry about it. i believe we have the right to bear arms but i do beliving in a waiting period and screening....anyway
and Bryant you are right...I had my handgun stolen from me.....who knows where it went or who got or what has been done with it.
I think Gun Nut had some good advice here "insist on a bill of sale just to cover you in case of any quesitons."
Firearms how about requiring a private sale to be run thru a licensed gun dealer? The dealer could charge a small fee for the service and the background check could still be preformed.
