First, my heart goes out to this little boy because something definitely stinks here. I do not believe gender identification starts at the age of seven. While little boys and little girls may conceptualize the difference between the sexes visually (I believe most of us played doctor at some time in our adolescence), self awareness of a gender preference is not present at this age (in my opinion nad observations as a parent and a grandparent). So, it seems to me this may be more an issue about the parent(s) and their preferences than the child.
Second, I really object to the media use of the term "transgendered". The free use of the term indicates that the child has undergone genital modification or hormone therapy or some other process for "sexual reassignment" surgery. Which isn't the case. He's a little boy who likes to dress in girl's clothes. Maybe even likes to play with dolls - GI Joe?
Will he outgrow this phase? Maybe. Maybe not in view of the spotlight thrust upon him. But it seems to me that castigating the Girl Scouts minimizes the human side of this story. Once again the media goes for the divisive side of the story - the pros vs the cons and the 15 second sound bites, like the initial comment in this blog - rather than delving into the whys behind the actions.
And I feel sorry for Waffle's kids, yanked out of a fine organization for some silly actions 2000 miles away. That'll teach them! But, what?
I will not support your boycott of hate. I am sure this is where it begins teaching your kids how to discriminate, and judge people from high above your pedestal.
Opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one. Mine when it comes to this subject is if it's not hurting anyone stay out of it.
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
respect myself and others,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

What law and promise has the Bulloch County Girl Scout program violated? What about the one in Colorado?
Here is the big question...what promise and law will daughters in Bulloch County miss out on if everyone withdrew their child from Girl Scouts?
Usually I keep my opinions to myself concerning blogs. However if feel a need to comment, America was broken and corrupt before OBAMA took office, and what does the president have to do with a transgender child joining the Girl Scouts in Colorado...
I agree with waffle. Rules and regulations are for a reason... the standard has been set. Those standards should not be changed for anyone.
waffle would love these folks...
How sad. A kid is a kid, and hate is hate no matter how you slice it. I have to agree with The Community.... but first of all - is it even legal for a juvenile to be "transgendered?" If the child is biologically a boy, I see where some would not like his being in an all girl group. But people - we're talking KIDS here, and wow - hurting the girl who wants to sell you cookies because of something that ALLEGEDLY happened in Colorado? That's not kind.
its called GIRL scouts for a reason. its for girls.
and teapartygirl, only a idiot would actually believe obama was behind this. appearantly, your one of them.
"To serve God"
How is this boy serving GOD when he is deceiving and lying? He isn't.
"honest and fair"
He isn't honest, he is a liar. He isn't fair, normal boys can't join the Girl Scouts.
"be a sister to every Girl Scout"
A boy can't be a "sister".
Cheez, waffle, lighten up! "Unusual," I'll grant, but "outrage"? You act as if this singular case represents the end of civilization, and you make no effort to understand the circumstances.
And who is this boy "deceiving and lying" to? You're thousands of miles away and surely have never met the kid, and yet YOU know he's a boy! It seems like he's being pretty honest about being a boy. "Fair" and "normal" are not the same thing. And the definition of "normal" is not "the one and only acceptable way to be."
Again, I grant that this is a peculiar situation. But all kinds of peculiar things happen every day, and most of them come and go without bringing civilization to its knees.
Now if you need to rant and rage about something going against what most people would call "normal," check out venus flytraps, pitcher plants, sundews, and other carnivorous plants ("A plant that eats animals?!? Plants get eaten by animals, they don't eat animals! Calling these things plants is an OUTRAGE!!!"). And there are over 600 species; there are probably a few in your own neighborhood!!!
First I would like to thank the Herald for printing this blog and supporting my message. I'm glad there is still a media outlet out there that supports the real families of America.
Secondly Scindapsus. It's not "fair" that this "boy" gets to be in the Girl Scouts while hundreds of others can't be. It's outrageous. Why should this liberal weirdo get his way? He should join the Boy Scouts. Oh wait, he can't because the Boy Scouts are good Christians and they ban the homosexuals from their group.
Hmm, you're laying this on a bit too thick. Are you a troll perhaps?
"The real families of America"? Who talks like this?
A seven-year-old "liberal weirdo"? Not that I doubt you consider him a weirdo (he's not just like you, after all), but liberal?
Who are these hundreds of other boys who wanted to join Girl Scouts but couldn't, and how do you know about them?
"the Boy Scouts are good Christians"? What about the other 37 faiths that are currently part of BSA?
Oddly, I hope you are simply a troll, as it'd'be kinda disturbing to see someone hide under the mantle of Christianity while spouting such toxic, rigid, intolerant nonsense. Not that I haven't run into this before!
Are there any true Conservatives men that like to go around in dresses pretending they are girls?
The Scouts ban gays and atheists. The other religions at least have faith in something. But the gays and atheists can't be converted.
Given the way you use the terms "true" and "real," I suggest you look up the "No true Scotsman" logical fallacy. It makes it impossible to take your assertions about "true Conservatives," "true Christians," "real families," etc. seriously.
Besides that, your question misses the point. Are there any seven-year-old men, conservative or otherwise? And if a conservative man did dress up as a girl when he was seven years old, does that mean he isn't a "true conservative" now?
Waffle, have you looked into "American Heritage Girls"? They are like the Girl Scouts only they stand up for Christianity. They were formed in 1995 because the moms wanted more of a Christian scouting group than the Girl Scouts could offer. Google them. If you don't have a troop in your area you can start one or, if you don't want to or can't, they have a Trailblazer program your daughter could do. Blessings, your sister in Christ.
